Introduction
My first year as a West of Montreal Realtor taught me something surprising: the houses were never the hard part.
After years of investing in real estate and buying and selling properties myself, I thought I had a pretty good understanding of what the business involved. While that experience certainly helped, becoming a West of Montreal Realtor gave me a whole new appreciation for the human side of real estate.
The real lessons came from navigating emotions, solving problems, negotiating solutions, and helping people through one of the biggest decisions of their lives. Looking back, this first year taught me valuable lessons about patience, communication, adaptability, and the importance of building relationships.
And yes… the learning curve was steep. 😅

Patience: My Unexpected Teacher
Let’s start with a confession.
Patience has never been my strongest quality.
I like solving problems. I like checking things off lists. I like moving things forward. Preferably yesterday. 😅
Real estate, however, had other plans.
Sure, there are the usual delays—financing approvals, inspections, paperwork, scheduling conflicts, and the occasional “Oops, I forgot to send that document.”
But what really surprised me was the human side of patience.
Buying or selling a home is a big deal. People need time to process information, ask questions, weigh their options, call their parents, sleep on it, and sometimes change their minds a few times before feeling comfortable moving forward.
I’ve learned that part of my job is being flexible, meeting people where they are, and helping them navigate what can be an emotional process.
At the same time, real estate comes with deadlines that don’t care about anyone’s feelings. Conditions need to be fulfilled. Documents need to be signed. Timelines need to be respected.
So somewhere along the way, I learned the delicate art of balancing patience with gentle nudging. 😄
“Take the time you need” often followed by “Just a friendly reminder that we need this signed by 5 p.m.”
It’s a skill I’m still working on, but I’ve come to appreciate that real estate isn’t about rushing people through decisions. It’s about giving them the support they need while making sure the train still arrives at the station on time.
Not always easy.
But definitely worth it.
Strategy Matters a LOT!
Having invested in real estate and bought and sold properties myself over the years, I already knew that successful real estate decisions require planning, timing, and thinking ahead.
What did surprise me was how quickly strategies need to adapt once real people and real emotions enter the equation.
Every client has different goals.
Every negotiation takes on its own personality.
Every transaction presents its own set of challenges.
As a West of Montreal Realtor, I’ve learned that the best strategy isn’t necessarily having all the answers. It’s knowing how to pivot when circumstances change, anticipate potential obstacles, and help clients make informed decisions along the way.
Sometimes Plan A works perfectly.
Sometimes Plan B becomes Plan C.
And occasionally, you create Plan D while drinking your third coffee of the day. ☕😄
That’s real estate.
Finding My People
I quickly realized that success in real estate isn’t about having the biggest contact list—it’s about building relationships with professionals you genuinely trust and who share the same client-first values.
Over the past year, I’ve aligned myself with incredible colleagues, mentors, mortgage specialists, building inspectors, notaries, contractors, photographers, and other professionals who all play a role in helping my clients succeed.
When I recommend someone, it’s because I trust them to care for my clients the same way I would.
Because while clients may work directly with me as their West of Montreal Realtor, they’re also benefiting from a trusted team working behind the scenes to make the process as smooth as possible.
Expect the Unexpected... Then Expect Some More
Most mornings start with a plan.
By noon, that plan has usually been replaced by three new questions, two unexpected challenges, and at least one situation nobody could have predicted.
One minute you’re discussing market conditions. The next, you’re helping solve a last-minute financing issue, tracking down a missing document, or answering a question you’ve never been asked before.
And then there are the truly memorable requests.
Like the time a client asked if I could watch their baby in the car while they visited a property. 😳😂
The truth is, every transaction comes with surprises. Some are serious, some are funny, and some become great stories later. As a West of Montreal Realtor, I’ve learned to expect the unexpected, stay flexible, and keep my sense of humor close by.
Because if there’s one thing I know for sure, tomorrow will bring something new.
Why I Love This Job ❤️
It’s about educating, advising, reassuring, following up, solving problems, and helping people navigate one of the biggest decisions of their lives.
Do I find it challenging some days?
Absolutely.
Do I love it?
Absolutely.
Because helping people has always been my big WHY.
To everyone who trusted me during my first year as a West of Montreal Realtor, thank you.
Cheers to Year 2. 🥂
